Claims of strange voices and apparitions of "two men chatting in an old court room" have haunted visitors and the staff in the past. Dating back to the 1790s, the former House of Correction includes an ageing Victorian court room, prisoner cells and officers from when it was used as a police station and tramp station.

Investigations will cover everything from the court dock to original cell blocks built in 1844

The following was reported:

"At around 7pm, I realised I'd left something at my office at the Old Prison and needed to pop back and grab it.

"We parked up at the Old Prison. No other cars were there, all lights were off, all tenants had gone home and the place was locked up for the night."

Entering through the main front door into the court room, they walked along the corridor to Louise's office on the ground floor next to the historic courtroom. They then popped into a nearby room, set up for an exhibition.

"We were in the far corner of the room near to the cell block when we both heard a male voice talking," recalled Louise. "Neither of us could discern what the man was saying. But it was clear to us both that he was explaining something to someone else.

"My friend also saw them standing in the court room. The man who was talking was taller and slim. He was wearing smart trousers and shoes, a shirt and a jumper and wore thin wire framed glasses. The person he was talking to was shorter, plump and he wore a shirt, waistcoat, suit trousers, black shoes and a small top hat.

"He had chestnut brown hair and a moustache. The whole experience lasted only five or 10 seconds and we then left the Old Prison walking back the way we'd come; through the courtroom to the main exit and left."

This event has a group. You’re welcome to join the group once you register for the event.
